3 Ways Fundy Designer Will Save You Time and Make You Money

I have a simple question for you as a photographer – do you want to make more money?

How about making more money and saving time in the process?

Sound good? I thought so.

There are a lot of programs out there to help photographers design albums and other printed products. I’ve used a bunch of them. I even used to design all my own layouts in Photoshop, but that took A LOT of time. I would spend hours and hours on each design, which meant I was making less money for my effort. And that made me feel like this…

Then I found Fundy Designer and my design life changed forever…for the better!

Why? Well, because not only did it save me time, it also made me more money…and here’s how:

[adrotate group=”10″]

Auto Album Design

If you sell albums to your clients, one of the easiest ways to increase album sales is with pre-design. When clients who haven’t ordered an album see a design in front of them, they get attached to it. It becomes less of an abstract concept and turns into something tangible. They start to see it as something that is already theirs and that makes them more likely to order a book.

Even for clients who already ordered an album, showing them a sample design is extremely helpful. You eliminate the biggest problem for them – time. If you’re waiting on your clients to pick photos for their books, you could be waiting for months (I’ve even had some people come back to me YEARS later) for them to make a decision. Make it easier for them…

Pick the photos.

Tell the story.

Then they can make changes. Again, they’re not dealing in some abstract concept of what the album is going to look like. They’ve never done this before.

I know, I know. You’re thinking, “How is this saving me time? I’m supposed to design books for all of my clients, even the ones who haven’t ordered one? Sounds like I will be working more!”

Well, what if I told you that you could design an entire book in a matter of minutes?

[adrotate group=”4″]

Yep, that’s right. You can group the photos together how you want them, or the designer will automatically put them together by their time stamp. Choose the size of the book, number of pages, and in about a minute, you’ll have a design!

Don’t like it? You can go in and make adjustments, choose from preset template designs or customize the pages, swap photos into different positions by dragging and dropping.

The most time you will spend will be picking the photos (which I do during my editing workflow, I just flag the photos I like for an album design and blog posts so I can easily access them later) and grouping them together.

Don’t believe me? Watch the video below. I was going to make my own video but there’s sums it up much better than I could have.

Wall Art

Selling big prints and wall hangings to clients can be a great source of revenue for your photography business. Whether you do in-person sales or virtual sales on wall hangings, the biggest obstacle, again, is making it ‘tangible’ for your client before they buy.

So, how do you do that?

Again, the Fundy Designer Suite has you covered. You can create sample wall layouts with your clients’ photos. You can use one of the many stock room images available OR if your clients send you a picture of a room in their home they’d like to put a print or canvas on…you can show them what it would look like on THEIR wall!

I’ve found that just showing clients what the image will look like on their own wall gets you 90% of the way to making a sale – and, they will often go with a bigger piece once they see how it will actually look.

Again, they put together a much better video explaining how it works than I could.

Card Design

Your clients want cards. Thank you cards. Holiday cards. Like wall art, these are another great source of revenue for you, the photographer.

But, your clients will most likely think, “Hey, I’m just going to order my cards myself. Why should I order them from my photographer?”

[adrotate group=”12″]

Because, like pre-designing their album, you’re going to show them what the cards they order from you could look like.

Watch the video below to see how it works.

An All-in-One Design Suite

One of the biggest ‘time sucks’ you can experience designing printed materials as a photographer is repeating the same tasks and having to switch programs. The Fundy Designer suite allows you to create one main project for each client, and then add sub-projects for your varied design needs.

You pick all the photos you want to use, say, for an album. Then you can create sub-projects for blog collages, card designs, and wall art. All the photos you chose are already there, all you have to do is drag and drop them into the different layouts!

Bonus – Pro Enhancements

The design suite is available as a one time purchase (not a subscription) but Fundy Software has some great reasons to subscribe to their “pro enhancements”:

  • More stock rooms, card and album templates to choose from
  • Export photos, album designs, and wall art proofs as HD slideshows with music (you even get to choose from their library of royalty free songs)
  • One click retouching! You can even batch process a group of photos. Soften blemishes, smooth skin, and brighten eyes instantly. Check out more details by clicking here.
  • Album proofing!!! This, to me, was worth the price of the subscription by itself. Upload as many album designs as you want. Clients sign an agreement upon reviewing their album (put in the max number of changes they can make, etc.) and they can make their comments/edits right on the layout! You can brand the proofer to your business, send email reminders to clients who haven’t approved their layout, and clients can view their album designs on any device.

The cost is $179 a year, but when you think about what it would cost you just for the album proofer, let alone all the retouching you can do, plus the cost of licensing music for slideshows…well, it pays for itself. Plus, you can try the professional enhancements free for three months when you buy the design suite. Don’t like them? You don’t have to use them.
