Ah, the double camera harness. The quintessential accessory of wedding photographers everywhere. Personally, when I am wearing my Holdfast double camera harness, my cool status goes up by a factor of ten…at least! Guests at weddings have commented on how cool the harness looks many times, comparing me to a ‘gunslinger’ more times than I can count.

Seriously, it adds a level of sophistication to your appearance and I cannot count the number of times that a guest at a wedding has remarked that they think it’s awesome. Everybody wants to be part of the double camera harness crew…
Is the double camera harness practical? Absolutely! It gives you access to two camera bodies so you don’t have to waste a bunch of time switching lenses.
People will say to me, “Sure, it may seem like a good idea to have two cameras at the ready, but have you ever actually tried to use them both at the same time?” As a matter of fact, I have!
It’s a difficult skill to master. You can’t have back button focusing enabled on your left hand camera, but, over the years, I have developed this two handed style for specific instances during the wedding day when I want to use two different focal length almost simultaneously (during special dances for example). Is it practical to use throughout the wedding day? No.
But that’s not the point of a double camera harness. You’re not some photography ninja with arms of steel, impossibly to snap photos with both cameras simultaneously. The entire reason for having this piece of equipment is to save time so that you don’t miss a moment. If you look you’re about to embark on a high stakes spy mission at the same time, I would call that a bonus.
If you’re not living the double camera harness life, are you really living at all?
